It\u2019s not finalized yet, but it could affect the timeline or scope.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\ud83d\udc49<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kpmg.com\/nl\/en\/home\/insights\/2025\/02\/eu-releases-sustainability-omnibus-proposals.html\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read the update from KPMG<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, what does that mean for your business?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Will CSRD apply to your company?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your company meets two out of these three, then yes\u2014CSRD will apply:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Annual turnover of over \u20ac40 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assets of over \u20ac20 million<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 250 employees<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This includes many manufacturers, assemblers, and companies with complex supply chains\u2014especially those operating in sectors like food, packaging, or consumer goods.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Why supply chain matters more than ever<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Up to 80% of your customers&#8217; total footprint comes from the supply chain, namely the upstream and downstream activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Upstream:<\/strong> Environmental impact (such as the emissions from producing the materials or ingredients you provide as a supplier).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Downstream:<\/strong> The usage phase of a product (e.g., electricity consumed by products when used by consumers).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>So what\u2019s changing? As a supplier, you\u2019ll need better data<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To comply with CSRD, you\u2019ll need to share reliable, transparent data on your environmental impact\u2014not just rough estimates or industry averages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That means sharing <strong>real data with your customers<\/strong>. Especially if you&#8217;re responsible for a big part of their carbon or environmental footprint. In most cases, you&#8217;ll need to do <strong>product-level footprinting<\/strong>\u2014so that your customers know the actual impact of the materials or products they&#8217;re buying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And yes, that\u2019s a shift. But it\u2019s also an opportunity to get ahead, build better relationships, and drive real improvements.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What kind of footprint data are we talking about?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under CSRD, companies are expected to report on:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Carbon footprint<\/strong> (emissions from operations and supply chain)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other environmental <strong>impacts<\/strong>, like water use, pollution, and waste<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carbon reporting will follow the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and many companies will use <strong>Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs)<\/strong> to calculate impact\u2014especially for products and supply chains.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-15359\" src=\"https:\/\/ecochain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/product_life_cycle_concise_800-400pn-300x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"506\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ecochain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/product_life_cycle_concise_800-400pn-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/ecochain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/product_life_cycle_concise_800-400pn-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/ecochain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/product_life_cycle_concise_800-400pn.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><b>This is going to trickle down\u2014fast<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even if you don&#8217;t fall under CSRD yet, you\u2019ll still feel the effects. Why?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because your customers might be affected\u2014and they\u2019ll ask you for environmental data to meet their own reporting requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how the EU\u2019s Head of Corporate Reporting put it:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLarge companies will need data from their suppliers. That request will trickle down the supply chain\u2014first to direct suppliers, then beyond.\u201d<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Alain Deckers, European Commission<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What now? A few key takeaways:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CSRD is already in effect. Large companies start reporting in 2025 (on 2024 data), with smaller ones to follow.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re a supplier to a large company, expect requests for carbon and environmental data soon\u2014if you haven\u2019t already.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primary data matters. Product footprinting is becoming a must-have, not a nice-to-have.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t need to figure it out alone.
